Is It OK to Eat Pesto Every Day?

Wall calendar

Eating pesto daily is a little excessive, but we enjoy eating it at least two or three times a week, and we're still standing.

Eating pesto every day is more likely to make you sick of it than cause you to get sick.

Most dieticians agree that we should all eat a diverse diet, with most calories coming from plants, moderate amounts of unsaturated fat and protein, and a little dairy. Eating pesto every day, therefore, especially if you always pair it with calorific pasta, probably means that your diet is far from diverse.

The health implications of daily pesto consumption

We've written at length about the calories in pesto, whether it's fattening, and why dieticians consider pesto healthy, but indulging daily is probably taking things too far. Don't get us wrong, washing down fish and chips with a gallon of Coca-Cola daily will harm your heart health and waistline more than a bowl of pesto pasta every night. Still, in excessive quantities, you may find that your pesto consumption is causing your fat and salt intake to be higher than NHS guidelines recommend.

The boredom of eating the same food every day

Aside from any issues of physical health, we find a diverse and varied diet to be one of life's great pleasures, especially since we are privileged to live in a society where being adventurous eaters is financially possible. We greatly enjoy expanding our culinary repertoire and discovering new cuisines and cooking techniques.

It could be because of our short attention span and natural propensity to get bored quickly, but we know that even if we had access to steak, lobster, and white chocolate Magnums every day, we'd be sick of them all within a week.
